About DigiByte

DigiByte is an open-source blockchain created in late 2013 and released in early 2014. It is designed to be a faster and more secure digital currency and platform for digital assets, smart contracts, decentralized applications, and secure authentication. The project emphasizes decentralization, having never been funded through an ICO or significant premine, and is driven by a global volunteer community with no central company or CEO. DigiByte aims to solve issues of speed, security, and decentralization compared to earlier blockchains like Bitcoin.

• DigiByte uses five cryptographic algorithms (SHA256, Scrypt, Skein, Qubit, Odocrypt) for mining, with Odocrypt changing every 10 days to resist ASIC centralization.
• DigiByte blocks occur every 15 seconds, which is 40 times faster than Bitcoin and 10 times faster than Litecoin, enabling up to 1066 on-chain transactions per second.
• DigiByte has a total supply of 21 billion DGB, a 1000:1 ratio to Bitcoin's 21 million, with block rewards reducing by 1% every month instead of halving every 4 years.
• DigiByte was one of the first blockchains to implement SegWit and also features DigiShield, MultiAlgo mining, Dandelion++ privacy protocol, DigiAssets, and Digi-ID.
• The DigiByte blockchain is structured in three layers: the top layer for applications and DigiAssets, the middle layer for the public ledger and security, and the bottom layer for the global network communication.
